Wheaton College student arrested on multiple counts of arson

NORTON, Mass. (WLNE) – A Wheaton College student was arrested Wednesday in connection with a string of arson incidents at one of the school’s dormitory buildings.
Norton Fire and Police, along with Wheaton Public Safety responded to the third floor of McIntyre Hall just before 3:30 a.m. Thursday for a fire alarm.
A fire in the hallway was observed upon arrival.
Norton Police said this was the sixth fire in McIntyre Hall since November 28th, 2018.
Following an investigation by Massachusetts State Police, Janelys Pimental, a 22-year-old student at Wheaton College, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Two (2) counts of Arson from fires on 12/2/18
- Four (4) counts of Wantonly Injuring Real and Personal Property for fires on 11/28/18, 12/2/18, 12/14/18 and 2/7/19
- Six (6) counts of Vandalism for the above incidents
Pimental is scheduled to be arraigned at Attleboro District Court.
Norton Police said nobody was injured in any of the reported fires.
