Winter essentials donated to homeless veterans

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — In honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, the ELISHA project is donating winter essentials to support homeless veterans.
Local law enforcement and community leaders joined the ELISHA project to help distribute nearly 2,000 Home Depot buckets filled with coats, socks, gloves and hygiene products.
In today’s event at the ELISHA project headquarters, volunteers placed the buckets into police cruisers. This will give local law enforcement the opportunity to give out the buckets throughout the upcoming days when officers witness veterans and others experiencing hardship during the winter months.

According to the ELISHA project, of the nearly 1,000 chronically homeless in Rhode Island, approximately 13% are homeless veterans.
