Woman arrested in Providence stabbing

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A woman was arrested in connection to a stabbing in Providence on Tuesday.

According to a police report obtained by ABC 6 News on Wednesday, officers were called to the area of Cranston and Superior streets around 4:30 p.m. for a reported stabbing.

The report says two women were standing on Cranston Street when one shouted at the other, who then ran away.

Officers followed the suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Christine Conforme.

An officer “who also knew the female subject as ‘Christina'” approached her and asked her if she had a knife.

According to the report, Conforme said, “I do for my protection.”

She was taken into custody and put in the back of a cruiser.

“While being detained, Conforme made a number of excited utterances in relation to the incident,” the report says.

The report includes Conforme was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

The victim was brought to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation.
