Woman charged with O.U.I. after crashing into police cruiser

NORTH KINGSTOWN — A police officer was hospitalized after his parked police cruiser was hit by a 54-year-old Narragansett woman.
Officer Raymond Ho, is recovering after being treated and released at Rhode Island Hospital.
Melanie R. Davis, was charged with OUI, as well as refusing to submit a chemical test. She was also charged with simple assault for spitting at police after she was put in the rear of another patrol vehicle.
Officer Ho’s Cruiser was struck by Davi’s passing vehicle after he finalized a motor vehicle stop around 9:15 p.m. Friday night. According to police, the patrol car was on the breakdown lane with it’s emergency lights on.
Davis’s vehicle came to rest against the center guard rail. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
Davis was released on $1,000 personal recognizance. She is due in District Court, on December 15.
