RAYNHAM, MA – Police and K-9’s searched the woods at the Raynham / Taunton line where a woman was found bloodied and unresponsive but alive, Tuesday morning.

Melanie Cordeiro called 9-1-1 after a woman driving in front of her stopped the car and ran up to her.

"Told me that there was a dead body in the woods and I needed to call 911. And she was hysterical," Cordeiro said. "Hearing that, you just become worried."

Police found the woman laying in the woods about 15 feet off Thrasher Street in Raynham.

She was bit bloodied, but breathing, and was immediately rushed to Morton Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The Raynham Police Chief said she had no signs of trauma, but has a history of mental health issues.

Her car was found nearby.

"I’m shaken up about it, to know that something happened on a road that I pass by every night." Said neighbor Chris Cote. "It’s pretty scary that it’s right – almost in my front yard."

Police are also investigating reports of a separate woman wandering the woods Monday night acting strange just several hours prior.

"It’s really quiet this street, good community, so I don’t know. This stuff usually doesn’t happen down here."

Police are still searching the woods to make sure that other woman isn’t in there.

Raynham Police said there’s no danger to the public.
