Woman displaced after house fire in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A woman was displaced from her home after a house fire in New Bedford Sunday evening.
New Bedford firefighters responded to a structure fire before 6 p.m. on Garrison Road.
District chief Bob Mourao said the fire started outside the building but climbed up the wall and took control of the attic.
There were solar panels on top of the house, which was a major concern for Mourao. However, the attic did not collapse. The house suffered “expensive” damage.
Nearly two dozen firefighters worked to put out the fire, three engines and two ladder trucks were involved. The American Red Cross was on scene.
The female resident also had a dog that made it out safely. She was examined by EMS but not need to go to the hospital.
The fire is ruled as “accidental”.
There were no injures.
