A woman’s body was found on a beach in East Providence Tuesday afternoon, and now police are searching for answers and asking for the public’s help in identifying her.

Detectives say that based on the status of the body, they do not suspect foul play, but are investigating the woman’s death as "suspicious."

Police say they have identified the woman but are not releasing her name at this time.

The report came in just after noon when a person walking the beach found the body washed ashore on a private beach behind Terrace Avenue, adjacent to Carousel Park.

The woman is described as a heavy-set female who looks to be in her late 20’s or early 30’s. Authorities say she is possibly white or Hispanic, and was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and sweatpants, with bright green sneakers. There were no visible injuries on her body.

The woman was found in shallow water, but police do not believe she spent a lot of time there, saying she may have passed away on shore and was taken by the tide.

"We haven’t been able to identify her at this point. We’re hoping that tomorrow we’ll have more luck in doing so, but at this point, if someone knows someone that fits that description that’s been missing, please contact us. We’d like to follow up on any leads we get," says East Providence Police Lt. Raymond Blinn.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the East Providence Police Department.
