Women & Infants Hospital announces layoffs

By The Associated Press
The hospital announced the layoffs Monday. It also said the hours for six additional employees will be reduced.
The hospital says it needs to address inefficiencies in a challenging health care environment and bring its costs in line with other organizations.
It says it has recently taken other steps, including offering early retirement and voluntary separation programs and reducing extra staff through attrition.
But it says those measures were not enough because the hospital is receiving fewer patients and revenues are down.
The hospital says it will try to help the employees find other jobs within the Care New England health system.
