Woonsocket couple admit to conspiracy to smuggle cocaine into Rhode Island

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — United States Attorney Zachary Cunha said that a former Woonsocket couple admitted that they directed a conspiracy that was responsible for shipping dozens of packages of cocaine through the U.S. Postal Service from Puerto Rico to Rhode Island.

Cunha said that Efrain Colon-Garcia, and his wife, Yaniris Colon-Senquiz, each pled guilty to a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and a charge of unlawful use of a communication facility. The two most recently lived in Florida.

Cunha said that court documents showed that the couple as responsible for more than five dozen packages that were shipped into Rhode Island, each containing a kilogram or more of cocaine, and they themselves received multiple shipments.

Colon-Garcia admitted that he received at least nine packages at his residence and business addresses and Colon-Senquiz admitted to receiving at least four packages personally addressed to her. They both admitted knowing that the packages contained cocaine.

The couple are scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 10, 2024.
