Woonsocket family trying to rebuild after 5-alarm fire
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A Woonsocket family whose home was destroyed on Monday after a 5-alarm fire is trying to rebuild.
Fire Chief Bob Cahill confirmed that a total of four people were taken to the hospital, and 40-50 firefighters from different municipalities were pulled in to help put out the blaze on Logee Street.
The cause of the fire, according to the Rhode Island Fire Marshall, was due to a cigarette being discarded from the third-floor porch.
A GoFundMe, set up by a family member named Lori Bruneault, said her aunt and uncle, as well as their daughter lived in the house, and lost everything.
According to the GoFundMe, the timing of the fire also couldn’t be worse as her uncle Mark had just been diagnosed with cancer.
“He was well known for giving free meals to people in need, and now he is in need,” states the GoFundMe .
Her uncle, Mark, said Bruneault, also ran a local restaurant in the city for many years.
Her aunt, Aline, has provided compassionate care to many elderly members of our community, including those in hospice care throughout her years working in nursing.
“Please help us support our family through this terrible tragedy. All donations will be greatly appreciated and will be used to replace items they lost in the fire,” the GoFundMe further states.
So far, the GoFund me has raised almost $5,000.
Fire Marshal Scott Hampson confirmed with ABC 6 that according to Woonsocket Animal Control, a total of 11 pets also perished in the fire.
