Woonsocket High School students facing weapons charges after incident at Cass Park

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Woonsocket police say two teenagers are facing several charges after allegedly assaulting another teen, bringing weapons into school, possessing drugs and leading officers on a brief foot chase on Tuesday.
According to Woonsocket’s Police Chief, Thomas Oates, a 15-year-old boy is charged with possession of a knife on school grounds, second degree robbery, disorderly conduct, obstruction and simple assault and battery. A 16-year-old boy is also charged with possession of a firearm (flare gun) on school grounds, possession of a firearm (flare gun) by a minor, possession of fentanyl and contempt of a family court order.
Officials said that on Wednesday, at approximately 10 a.m., police received a 911 call from a boy who said he was assaulted at Cass Park.
First responders located the 16-year-old boy who was bleeding from the face. He was taken to Landmark Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.
The victim later identified his assailants as two bothers, ages 15 and 16 and described them to police. After locating the two boys, police said they led officers on a brief foot chase before being taken into custody.
Both juvenile suspects were ordered by a Family Court judge to be held at the Rhode Island Training School and will appear in court on Thursday.
Officials said that all three juveniles are students at Woonsocket High School.
