Woonsocket man charged with DUI in crash that left pedestrian with serious injuries

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Woonsocket man has been charged with driving under the influence and other offenses after a crash involving a pedestrian, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office said Brian Morton, 34, was charged by way of criminal information last month.
Woonsocket police were called to a crash with a pedestrian on Front Street around 9:30 p.m. on July 12.
First responders were treating the victim, who was on her back in the road. Witnesses pointed officers to Morton.
Officers reported that Morton smelled like alcohol and had bloodshot and glossy eyes.
Morton was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.
Police said the owner of the vehicle Morton was driving said that he was his employee, and that he did not have permission to drive it.
He faces a charge of driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner or lessee in addition to DUI resulting in serious bodily injury and driving to endanger resulting in serious bodily injury.
Morton has a pre-arraignment conference set for Nov. 29 in Providence County Superior Court.
