WORCESTER, Mass. (WLNE) – Wednesday was another groundbreaking day for women in baseball.

The Worcester Red Sox announced Woonsocket native Brooke Cooper will be the team’s next general manager.

Cooper becomes the first woman GM at any level in Red Sox franchise history.

“I am both honored and excited to take on the role of General Manager for the Worcester Red Sox,” Cooper said. “I’ve gained an incredible education in the business of baseball over the past several years.”

Club officials also announced Cooper will be the club’s executive vice president moving forward.

Prior to her promotion, Cooper had been the senior vice president and assistant general manager of the WooSox since 2022 after serving as the club’s vice president and marketing leader in 2021.

“Having enjoyed the past three seasons in Worcester,” Cooper said. “The passion for both baseball and community in this city and the surrounding region is truly remarkable, and something I am proud to be a part of.”

Cooper previously received a master’s of business administration from Providence College and started her career with the Pawtucket Red Sox in 2015 as an intern in merchandising.

“We have relished the rise of Brooke since meeting her in 2015,” said WooSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg.  “Her integrity makes her trustworthy, and that quality is priceless.”

Cooper notably helped lead the Woonsocket High girls basketball team to a pair of Rhode Island State Championships in 2009 and 2010 and the girls soccer team to State Titles in 2008 and 2009.
