Woonsocket offering amnesty program for unpaid taxes

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Woonsocket Mayor Christopher Beauchamp said that the city would be offering an amnesty program for certain taxpayers for past taxes.

The program would allow taxpayers with overdue tangible property taxes and/or motor vehicle taxes to pay the principal amount while waiving accumulated interest and penalties.

The amnesty program will be available for 60 days, starting Feb. 15 and ending April 15.

Beauchamp said that taxpayers must submit a written application to the city’s Treasury Office requesting the waiver, and it must include full payment of the overdue principal tax balance.

More information on the program can be found by contacting the Treasury Office at 401-767-9276 or via e-mail at Treasury@woonsocketri.org.
