Woonsocket police release body-worn camera footage from chase of stabbing suspect

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — The Woonsocket Police Department on Friday released body-worn camera footage from the chaotic chase of a stabbing suspect late last year.

The video begins with police trying to get 32-year-old Gabriel Goodwin out of his vehicle, which had flipped over after he crashed while running from officers.

Police were initially called for an assault at an Ocean State Job Lot parking lot.

The video includes police talking with the victim, 25-year-old Bran Bailey of Mansfield, in the parking lot. He received treatment on scene and was brought to Rhode Island Hospital with stab wounds on his arm and his leg.

Witnesses tell police they saw Goodwin and the victim arguing as they were walking out of the Dollar Tree next door.

Police also released cellphone video taken from another witness, which shows Goodwin fighting with the victim, who was in a car.

As officers are taking interviews of what happened, Goodwin takes off and leads police on a chase that temporarily went into North Smithfield and looped back into Woonsocket.

Goodwin ultimately crashed into another car, and his vehicle was flipped on its side. Several officers then broke glass in attempt to remove him from the vehicle.

Two sisters were in the car that Goodwin struck. They were both treated and released from Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Goodwin was charged with felony assault, weapons other than a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction, disorderly conduct, and eluding law enforcement in a high speed pursuit.

He was issued a no contact order with the victim at his arraignment days after the incident.

Goodwin will be back in court in March.
