Work to open new lanes at Providence viaduct on Interstate 95 North postponed

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — RIDOT is postponing work to open additional lanes on Interstate 95 North at the Providence viaduct.

The agency said the work, originally scheduled to be performed Friday night, is being postponed due to the weather forecast.

The work is now scheduled to be completed June 6.

A graphic provided by RIDOT shows the change now expected to be completed on June 6.

RIDOT plans to open additional travel lanes for drivers to get onto the service road before exit 38, which leads to Orms Street near the State House and state offices.

The service road also allows traffic entering I-95 North from Atwells Avenue, Route 6/10, and downtown to complete all merges, while drivers already on I-95 North continue past the area.
