#5 Maine Scores Late To Earn Tie With #7 PC, Black Bears Take Extra Point In Shootout

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 7/7 Providence College men’s ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with No. 5/5 Maine on Friday (Feb. 7) at Schneider Arena. Graham Gamache and Hudson Malinoski each tallied three points in the tie. Maine earned the extra point with a 1-0, four-round win in the shootout.

NOTES
– Providence broke onto the scoreboard early, as Guillaume Richard collected a feed from Hudson Malinoski before skating in on Boija, beating him high glove-side with a backhander just 2:33 into the opening period to give the Friars the 1-0 lead. Graham Gamache also earned an assist to set up the play.
– Maine found the equalizer with just 27 seconds to play in the opening frame, as Frank Djurasevic collected a rebound off Svedebäck before putting it away, tying the game at 1-1.
– The Friars regained their one-goal advantage late in the second period, as Graham Gamache corralled a Will Elger rebound in front before firing into the net to go up 2-1. Hudson Malinoski earned the secondary assist on the score.
– The Black Bears tied it up midway through the third period, as Bodie Nobes found Taylor Makar in the neutral zone for a shorthanded breakaway, locking the score at 2-2.
– Providence retook the lead just 1:34 later while on the power-play, as John Mustard skated with the puck behind the net before finding Hudson Malinoski in the face-off dot, who rifled the puck past Boija blocker-side to put the Friars ahead 3-2.
– After pulling Boija for an extra attacker, the Black Bears tied it up with 2:04 to play, as Taylor Makar put away a Harrison Scott rebound to tie it up at 3-3.
– Neither team scored in the overtime period, resulting in the 3-3 tie.
– Maine emerged with the extra conference point, as Sully Scholle found the back of the net in the fourth round, winning the shootout 1-0 for the Black Bears.
– Philip Svedebäck stood tall in the tie, denying 27-of-30 shots, good for a .900 save percentage.
– Five different Friars earned a point in the tie, paced by one goal, two assist efforts from both Hudson Malinoski and Graham Gamache.
– Sixteen different Friars landed a shot on net in the tie, headlined by Austen May’s five-shot effort.
