#9 UMass Routs #14 PC Men’s Hockey Tuesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 14 Providence College men’s hockey team fell to No. 9 UMass, 8-1, in Schneider Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

NOTES
-UMass grabbed an early lead in the opening period, netting two goals. Carson Gicewicz put the Minutemen on the board on the power play at 3:33 as John McDermott was whistled for high-sticking. Ty Farmer followed up with another goal less than minute later.

-The Minutemen returned in the middle period with a goal from Josh Lopina, improving their lead to 3-0.

-Parker Ford netted the first and only goal for the Friars at 2:46 into the second. Ford was assisted by Patrick Moynihan on his fourth goal of the season.

-UMass added three more goals in the second by Garrett Wait, George Mika and Oliver Chau, respectively, and entered the intermission with a 6-1 lead.

-The Minutemen extended their lead in the final period with two more goals from Wait and Zac Jones. Jones’ goal was scored on the power play.

-The Friars played man-down for five minutes at 9:05 after Jamie Engelbert was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for contact to the head. UMass was unable to capitalize on the power play.

-Jaxson Stauber stopped 32 of 40 shots he faced tonight.

-Cam McDonald had a team-high of five shots on goal.
