URI Football Announces 2022 Schedule

RICHMOND, Va. – Rhode Island will be one of five CAA Football teams playing on the first day of the 2022 season, as the Rams open at Stony Brook on Thursday, Sept. 1.
In addition to the Rhody-Stony Brook game, new league member Monmouth plays at New Hampshire and William & Mary travels to Charlotte, as the league will be featured in three prime time games on the first night of the season.

All 13 CAA Football teams will play an 11-game schedule over a span of 12 weeks. The conference slate includes four home games and four road contests for each team as they face eight of the other 12 CAA Football members.

For Rhode Island, the four home games this season are against Delaware (Sept. 17), Elon (Oct. 15), Maine (Nov. 5) and UAlbany (Nov. 19). The Rams also host this year’s rendition of the Governor’s Cup against in-state rival Brown on Oct. 1.

URI will play road games against Stony Brook (Sept. 1), Monmouth (Oct. 22), William & Mary (Oct. 29) and New Hampshire (Nov. 12).

In addition to four road CAA Football contests, Rhode Island will play at Pittsburgh (Sept. 24) and in-state rival Bryant (Sept. 10). Pitt’s head coach is Pat Narduzzi, who was a linebacker for Rhode Island from 1987-89. He also was an assistant coach with the Rams, coaching linebackers from 1993-97 and serving as the defensive coordinator from 1998-99.

The game against Pitt one of 12 for CAA schools against FBS opponents. Half of those games are against teams from Power 5 leagues, including three against ACC squads and two versus Big 12 squads. CAA Football teams have 17 victories over FBS foes since 2009, including two last season.

CAA Football has been dominant against non-conference FCS competition, posting a 22-7 record (.759) during the 2021 campaign.
At least one CAA Football team has reached the semifinals of the FCS playoffs for nine consecutive seasons and the conference has had a team make the FCS championship game 11 times since 2003.
