3 sentenced in connection to Carolina Avenue gang shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Attorney’s Office said Thursday that three men were sentenced to prison in connection to a gang shootout last year.
The shooting happened in May on Carolina Avenue and left nine people injured.
Attorney General Peter Neronha said that 19-year-old George Rios, 21-year-old Jordanny Britto, and 20-year-old Reynaldo Rivera all plead guilty to numerous gun-related charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon with a criminal street gang enhancement and conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon with a criminal street gang enhancement.
Both Rios and Britto were sentenced to a total of 32 years, while Rivera was sentenced to 30 years.
On May 13, police said they responded to Carolina Avenue after several people were shot.
Rios, Britto, Rivera, and Ricardo Cosme Tejada, who Neronha said were part of the “Get Monet Family” gang, drove to a home on that street and jumped out of a truck, waving pistols.
They then started shooting at several people who were connected to the “Lakeside” gang, including 24-year-old David Carides Jr., said the attorney general. The four suspects jumped back into their truck and took off.
As they were leaving, 26-year-old Daniel Carides, came out of the home and fired a pistol at the truck.
Rios, Britto, Rivera, and Ricardo Cosme Tejada then drove themselves to Rhode Island Hospital, said Neronha.
Both Daniel and David Carides’ cases are still pending.
