PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said Thursday a Providence man was sentenced to serve up to 25 years in prison after shooting a man in the city last year.

The Attorney General’s Office said that on Friday, 20-year-old Nashon Causey plead nolo contendere to assault with a dangerous weapon serious bodily injury resulting; discharge of a firearm resulting in injury; and carrying a pistol without a license

Prosecutors said that Causey seriously injured a 26-year-old man when he shot him last August.

Causey and Kurtis Lassiter Jr., who is also being accused in connection to the shooting, got into an argument with the victim outside of the Mandarin Garden restaurant on Chalkstone Avenue. The argument escalated, then Causey shot the man in the stomach.

Lassiter Jr.’s case is still pending in Providence County Superior Court.

Causey was sentenced to 45 years with 25 years to serve at the ACI and 20 years suspended with probation, which is nonprobable if violated.

“This Office is committed to seeking justice on behalf of those who have been harmed by gun violence, and I believe that the significant sentence handed down by the Court today represents just that,” said Neronha.
