CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee will air his first paid TV ad on Tuesday.

The ad titled “Motha” features Willa McKee, the governor’s 94-year-old mother.

Filmed in his Cumberland home, the ad shows him and his mother going back-and-forth over a game of cards, highlighting the progress his campaign said his term made for Rhode Islanders.

The governor is seeking his first full, elected term in office. He was elevated to the top job in the state following Gina Raimondo’s departure to become U.S. Commerce Secretary.

“Mom always said, ‘It doesn’t matter what cards you get, it’s how you play your hand.’ We got dealt a pandemic and delivered one of the nation’s best economic recoveries.” McKee said in the ad. “We got rid of the car tax… And we are creating affordable housing and passing gun safety laws that keep our families safe. Not bad for a year-and-a-half!”

“Not bad for a Governor that lives with his mother,” said Willa.

Another governor candidate, Ashley Kalus released her ad campaign in April.
