Weapon scanners now at High School in Fall River
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — With the school year close by, a high school in Fall River is making sure its students are safe.
All three main entrances at Durfee High School now have weapon scanners.
“Any person that walks into Durfee has to walk into one of these,” said Director of security for Fall River schools Joseph Correia. “We increased our security presence, we increased it by 12.”
He also said there is no doorway in this building that isn’t covered with a safety officer. That’s including bathrooms in the school.
Also, the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office offered emergency training for Fall River school security guards this summer.
The security guards went through the training program focused on facility security, suicide prevention, weapon searches, emergency first aid, as well as other things.
