Fall River woman recalls the moment her neighbor was attacked by vicious coyote

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Fall River police had to put down a coyote Monday morning after it attacked a woman and tried to attack country club workers.

The woman was bit at South Winds Apartments. ABC 6 News spoke to a neighbor of the woman who was attacked.

Amber Noonan lives at South Winds with her boyfriend and said they woke up to the sound of her neighbor yelling, who lives in the unit below her.

Noonan said her boyfriend quickly ran outside.

“He saw her just covered in blood, like she’s down to the bone in some areas,” Noonan explained.

She said she then followed her boyfriend outside, and said what she saw next was astonishing.

“There was blood all over her dog, a very bloody scene, very chaotic,” she described.

Police confirmed the woman was walking her dog around 5:45 a.m. when a coyote bit both of her legs.

“Where we are, she’s about five feet from the bushes, she stepped out of her door and within 30 seconds, it was on top of her, so it’s very terrifying knowing that they are right there, we hear them all night recently too,” Noonan said.

Other neighbors ran outside to help too, working to wrap up the woman’s wounds before the ambulance arrived.

Another resident at the complex said he walks his dog multiple times a day, and to think about what happened is alarming.

“This is a really nice area, nice complex, you wouldn’t expect anything of that nature to be around,” he said.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries and Noonan is now watching her dog while she’s there. Apparently, her dog walked away without a scratch.

“She protected that thing with her life, I’ve checked the dog out there’s nothing on that dog, she stayed on top of it the whole time, it was absolutely crazy,” Noonan said.

Police said while officers were responding to the apartment complex, they got another call for an aggressive coyote chasing grounds crew members at the Fall River Country Club. The coyote was then put down, and is now being tested for rabies.
