Pawtucket police officer Daniel Dolan’s court date postponed

The Coventry Police Department shared this booking photo of Daniel Dolan, 40, of Pawtucket.

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Pawtucket police officer Daniel Dolan, previously acquitted of shooting a teenager, did not appear in court as scheduled on Wednesday.

Dolan was set to face a judge in Kent County District Court on charges stemming from his arrest in Coventry last week. His attorney requested a continuance until next month.

He faces a felony charge of making a threat to a public official as well as misdemeanor charges of DUI of liquor and eluding law enforcement in a high speed chase, first offense.

Coventry police saw a truck driving erratically around 11 p.m. on Sept 2. near the intersection of Main Street and Sandy Bottom Road.

An officer was able to stop the truck after it “continued through moderate traffic.”

The officer spoke with Dolan, 40, who wasn’t the only person in his truck. When asked for his license and registration, he allegedly responded, “You know who I am.”

The officer reported that Dolan had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

After failing field sobriety tests, Dolan was taken to the police department.

He’s accused of making explicit and aggressive comments to officers while clenching his fists. He also refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Police said Dolan continued to swear at officers even as his booking photo was being taken.

Dolan’s new court date is set for Oct. 18.
