Patriots fans unsettled by Dale Mooney’s death

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — As initial details emerged Wednesday from Dale Mooney’s autopsy, Patriots fans still struggled to wrap their heads around his death Sunday.

The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday a New England Patriots fan who died after an incident at Gillette Stadium during a football game suffered a “medical issue.”

The wife of Dale Mooney said he was taunted by Miami Dolphins fans during the Sunday night game leading to a fight where another man allegedly punched him in the head three times.

“Preliminary autopsy results did not suggest traumatic injury,” the district attorney’s office said.

This week, Gillette Stadium and Patriots fans offered their condolences to Dale Mooney’s family.

“That guy just thought he was going to a football and never thought he wouldn’t come home,” said Tom, a Patriots fan in Foxboro Wednesday. “So, in the wee hours of the morning, was his car out there by itself?”

Another fan named Anthony added, “If you’re not mindful about the psychology of [fans], then you’re going to end up having situation like this… It should have been diffused by security.”

The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday they are still investigating Mooney’s death and urged anyone with information to come forward.
