Police arrest man accused of shooting person known to him in Fall River

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Fall River police said Thursday they arrested a 29-year-old man who’s accused of shooting a person known to him earlier this week.

The shooting happened at about 6 p.m. Monday on Choate Street.

Police said Mohamadou Kante III, of Fall River, shot the 42-year-old man in the hip. The victim drove himself to Charlton Memorial Hospital.

The man suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Kante was arrested in Rhode Island on Wednesday, according to police.

Once he returns to Massachusetts, Kante will be charged with the following:

  • Aassault and battery with a firearm
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling
  • Firearm violation with two prior violent or drug crimes
  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury
