BRISTOL, Conn. (WLNE) — A Bristol, Connecticut police officer returned to work nearly a year after he was shot in an ambush that killed two fellow officers, WTNH reports.

Officer Alec Iurato is in the training division getting reacclimated.

He was hurt in what police called a staged 911 call that claimed the lives of Sgt. Dustin Demonte, 35, and Officer Alex Hamzy, 34.

Iurato had an extensive recovery after suffering severe gunshot wounds.

The three officers responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident on Oct. 13, 2022.

Police said Nicholas Brutcher, 35, armed himself with an AR-15 and deliberately faked the 911 call to lure police to his house on Redstone Hill Road.

Iurato fatally shot Brutcher before he was able to shoot at anyone else.
