Providence courtroom to be renamed in honor of Judge Caprio

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence municipal courtroom will be renamed Friday in honor of “the nicest judge in the world.”
Former Chief Judge Frank Caprio is also affectionately known as “the grandfather of Providence.”
Caprio served the city for nearly 40 years. He decided to step down from his role in January.
“There will never be another Judge Caprio,” Providence City Councilman John Goncalves said at the time. “You could go into a courtroom– it can be a very tense and nerve-wracking experience – but the judge made you feel at home.”
He gained national attention for his courtroom reality show “Caught in Providence.”
Caprio became known for his empathetic demeanor in tense situations.
Rhode Island leaders will celebrate Caprio in a dedication ceremony at the Providence Public Safety Building.
