Providence Women’s Soccer Earns NCAA Tournament Berth vs Mississippi State

The Providence College women’s soccer team earned an at-large selection to the 2023 Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. The Friars will travel to Starkville, Mississippi to face Mississippi State in the First Round match-up. The date and time of the game has not been released.

The Friars will be returning to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years and for the third time in program history. Head Coach Sam Lopes will be making his second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In 2021, the Friars fell to Hofstra, 3-0, in the first round.

Providence enters the NCAA Tournament with 10-4-5 overall record. The team finished (4-1-5) in the BIG EAST Conference final standings. The Friars defeated St. John’s, 3-0, in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament and were defeated by Xavier, 2-0, in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. The Friars are one of three BIG EAST Teams to make this year’s tournament field.

Mississippi State enters the tournament with a 10-5-5 overall record. The Bulldogs earned an at-large selection after falling to Arkansas, 2-0, in the SEC Tournament semifinals.
