Cumberland’s Tyler Kolek Named Big East Player of the Week
Marquette guard Tyler Kolek has been chosen BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time this season and third in his career. Connecticut guard Solomon Ball has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both players helped their respective teams to 2-0 weeks that included a victory over a ranked opponent.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Tyler Kolek, Marquette, G, Sr. – In a 2-0 week, Kolek averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists while shooting 70.8 percent from the floor. In an 86-65 victory over No. 12 Texas, the senior poured in 28 points to go along with eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. In a 78-59 drubbing of Notre Dame, Kolek posted 17 points, seven boards and seven assists.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Solomon Ball, Connecticut, G, Fr. – Ball netted a collegiate-high 13 points, which included three 3-pointers, in an 87-76 victory over No. 9 North Carolina. He followed that with nine points in a 101-63 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to average 11.0 points for the week.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Jahmyl Telfort, Butler, G, Sr. – Earns honors for a second straight week after averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in wins over California (97-90 2ot) and Buffalo (72-59).
Alex Karaban, Connecticut, F, So. – Averaged 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in wins over North Carolina (87-76) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (101-63). Had 18 points and nine boards vs. UNC.
Chico Carter Jr., DePaul, G, Gr. – Averaged 17.5 points and shot 64.7 percent from the field in a 1-1 week. Made 6-of-10 from 3-point range. In a win over Louisville (75-68), posted 14 points and eight assists.
Tyler Burton, Villanova, F, Gr. – Had two double-doubles in a 1-1 week. Posted 18 points and 11 rebounds in a win against UCLA (65-56) and 12 points and 10 boards in a loss at Kansas State (72-71 ot).
Quincy Olivari, Xavier, G, Gr. – In a 1-1 week, averaged 30.5 points and 3.0 rebounds while making 61.1 percent from the field. Had 34 points in a loss to Delaware (87-80) and 27 in a win against Cincinnati (84-79).
