Pawtucket man found guilty of 2022 murder

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A man arrested for the homicide that took place outside a cigar lounge in Pawtucket has been found guilty of second-degree murder.
The Attorney General’s Office said Friday that the jury found Trequan Baker, 31, guilty of the following charges:
- Murder in the second degree
- Discharging a firearm while in the commission of a crime of violence with death resulting
- Possession of a firearm without a license
- One count of conspiracy to carry a pistol without a license
Baker faces charges in connection to the shooting death of Qudus Kafo on Jan. 23, 2022.
Authorities said a family member of Baker got into an argument and left the bar to make a phone call. When he returned, he approached Kafo, and lounge security got involved to break up the argument.
Police said that video surveillance footage shows Baker looking for Kafo.
Shortly after a physical fight, Baker allegedly got a gun from his car and loaded it.
Police said Baker ran to Benefit St. and fired a shot, fatally striking Kafo. Kafo was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died.
Baker’s trial began Thursday, according to online court records.
