Criminal charges filed against Warwick men connected to death of Patriots fan at Gillette Stadium

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said Thursday that criminal charges were filed against two Warwick men allegedly connected to the death of a man at Gillette Stadium.
Wrentham District Court issued criminal assault and disorderly conduct charges against 59-year-old John Vieira and 39-year-old Justin Mitchell, both of Warwick.
Police said Vieira, Mitchell, and another man were involved in a fight that ended in the death of 53-year-old Dale Mooney at the New England Patriots- Miami Dolphins game in Foxborough on Sept. 17.
Mooney, of Newmarket, New Hampshire, collapsed at the stadium and received emergency medical care.
Mooney later died at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.
Investigators initially believed that Mooney died from a medical emergency unrelated to the fight.
The exact cause of Mooney’s death remains under investigation.
The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said Thursday that more information on the case was forthcoming.
Vieira and Mitchell are set to be arraigned in January 2024.
