Cranston Costco application on pause

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston City Councilor Nicole Renzulli said that a zoning application for a Costco in the city has been put on hold.
Renzulli said the zoning ordinance amendment for the location was withdrawn in September “without prejudice.”
“I was, and still am, under the impression that Costco had some work to do in the background with the developer, which would be pretty common in the normal course of doing business,” she said.
Mayor Kenneth Hopkins said that the application was paused for “apparent further development discussions.”
“Our job as elected officials is to create a welcoming business environment in the City of Cranston, not to interfere with the day to day negotiations of private businesses and developer,” Renzulli said. “I, along with many of my constituents, welcome Costco to come to Cranston.”
Costco said that the company has a “no comment” policy when it comes to real estate.
