RIC Women’s Basketball Reacts To NCAA Tournament Draw, Gets Set To Host Saint Joseph’s (ME)

Providence, R.I.—No. 3 Rhode Island College will host Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in first round action of the 2024 NCAA Div. III Women’s Basketball Championship on Friday, March 1 at The Murray Center.

• Head Coach Jenna Cosgrove’s Anchorwomen are currently 27-0 overall and posted a perfect 16-0 (first place) mark in the Little East during the regular season.

• Rhode Island College won the Little East Regular Season Championship for the fourth straight season and was awarded the top seed for the conference tournament. RIC defeated fourth-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 67-40, in the semifinals on Feb. 22 and then second-seeded UMass Dartmouth, 67-52, in the finals on Feb. 24 to win the Little East Championship for the fourth consecutive campaign.

• In program history, the Anchorwomen have won six Little East Regular Season Championships (’23-24, ’22-23, ’21-22, ’20-21, ’13-14, ’11-12) and six Little East Tournament Championships (’23-24, ’22-23, ’21-22, ’20-21, ’13-14, ’11-12).

• Rhode Island College is making the program’s seventh NCAA Div. III Women’s Basketball Championship appearance (’23-24, ’22-23, ’21-22, ’13-14, ’11-12, ’84-85, ’82-83).

• The Anchorwomen have played five teams in the 64-team NCAA Tournament field and hold a 7-0 mark (UMass Dartmouth, Trinity (CT), Springfield, Gustavus Adolphus and Baldwin Wallace) against them.

• St. Joseph’s (ME) is currently 21-7 overall and went 14-0 (first place) to win the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. The Monks went 3-0, defeating Rivier, 74-64, Emmanuel, 70-64, and St. Joseph’s (CT), 85-72, to claim the GNAC Tournament title.

• RIC will also host an additional first round contest on March 1, as Gettysburg (24-3) will face Saint John Fisher (23-4). The winners will meet in the second round at RIC on Saturday, March 2.
