PC’s Olivia Olsen Named To All-BIG EAST Second Team
Providence College Press Release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College junior forward Olivia Olsen was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team on Thursday, March 7 ahead of the BIG EAST Tournament scheduled for March 8-11 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. It marks the first post-season honor of Olsen’s career.
A total of 19 student-athletes claimed All-BIG EAST recognition, including 10 First-Team selections, five Second-Team honorees and four players who claimed Honorable Mention accolades. Including Olsen, 23 Friars have claimed All-BIG EAST honors a total of 36 times during the program’s 50-year history.
Olsen leads the Friars and ranks among the BIG EAST leaders in eight statistical categories, including scoring (13th, 14.0 ppg), rebounding (3rd, 8.7 rpg), blocked shots (2nd, 1.7 bpg), field-goal percentage (5th, 0.533), offensive rebounding (4th, 2.8 orpg), defensive rebounding (3rd, 5.9 drpg), double-doubles (2nd, 11) and double-digit rebounding games (3rd, 12).
She played 30 of the Friars’ 31 games and paced the team in scoring 18 times and rebounding on 19 occasions.
Olsen currently ranks 22nd all-time at Providence in career rebounding, with 620 boards (92 career games). She also has accumulated 948 career points as a Friar and is 52 points shy becoming the 38th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Additionally, Olsen has recorded 52 blocked shots this season, which is tied for the fifth-highest single-season total in program history. A year ago, Olsen swatted a career-high 53 shots, which is tied for the third highest total. Olsen matched her career high in blocked shots on two occasions this season vs. Sacred Heart and Georgetown (six). She is just the second player in program history to record 50+ blocks in multiple seasons, joining Mary Baskerville ’22.
This season, Olsen landed a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll a total of five times.
Providence opens BIG EAST Tournament play as the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 seed Butler on Friday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m. The tournament will be played March 8-11 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
