PC Women’s Team Accepts Invitation To Play In WNIT

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2024 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Triple Crown Sports released its tournament field late Sunday night [March 17]. A full tournament schedule and bracket will be revealed on Monday, March 18.

The post-season tournament structure for women’s basketball has been altered for the 2024 cycle. In addition to the NCAA Tournament, which selects 68 teams to participate, the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) will select a 32-team field. The NCAA oversees the WBIT, which will begin its inaugural post-season event on March 21 (First Round).

Triple Crown Sports has been running the WNIT since 1998, after resurrecting what was formerly known as the NWIT (1969-1996). The Friars will be making their fourth appearance in the WNIT all-time and first since 2019. That season, Providence went 2-1 in tournament action and advanced to the Round of 16. The Friars are 6-4 all-time in NWIT / WNIT appearances.

Despite Providence’s sub-500 record (13-20), the Friars were considered for the 2024 WNIT field as an at-large selection due to their finish in the NET rankings (teams must finish inside the top-120).

All information pertinent to the Friars’ participation in the 2024 WNIT will be released as it becomes available. This will include the program’s Round 1 opponent, date and location of the first game and ticket information. Below is a general schedule of events.
