Attleboro woman arraigned on murder charge

ATTLEBORO, MASS (WLNE) – Kayla Cantu entered a plea of not guilty during her arraignment, on Tuesday morning, on a new murder charge that stemmed from a September 11th stabbing death in Attleboro.
She is now charged in the murder of 28-year-old Kimberly Duphily, Jacob’s wife.
“We plead not guilty today and we just ask that nobody jump to any conclusions at this point as to what happened or didn’t happen. Allow the process to take its course and Ms. Cantu will have her day in court,” Cantu’s attorney James Hanley said.
Cantu was previously being held on a $25,000 cash bail for the stabbing of 28-year-old Jacob Duphily.
“At this point, I just think there’s a lot of facts that are still yet to be determined and that’s really why it requires patience and taking time to understand what happened here,” Hanley said.
During Cantu’s arraignment in September, the court was made aware that she was staying in an apartment with both Kimberly and Hacon Duphily.
A fight had broken out inside the apartment, allegedly over stolen money and drugs around 4:00 PM on September 11th.
The investigation into the homicide is still being investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Attleboro Police detectives.
Cantu is being held without bail.
