Police identify pedestrian killed in East Providence crash

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – East Providence police are investigating after a 71-year-old man was killed on Tuesday night.
According to police, the accident happened around 5 p.m. on Pawtucket Avenue when a pedestrian was struck by a car.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim in the road with serious injuries. Members of both the East Providence police and fire departments began life-saving efforts to the victim.
The pedestrian was later identified as 71-year-old East Providence resident, Jose Rodrigues.
Rodrigues was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene and is cooperating with police.
The East Providence Police Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
