Bryant Draws NC State in NCAA Baseball Tournament

The America East Champion Bryant baseball team will head to the Raleigh (N.C.) Regional as the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded and No. 10 overall seed NC State on Friday, May 31. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.

Bryant (36-19) is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016 and are competing as a No. 4 seed for the first time. No. 2 seed South Carolina will face No. 3 seed James Madison in the other first-round game at 2:00 p.m. Friday. The Bulldogs have not faced NC State or South Carolina but did take two-of-three from JMU in 2009.

The Black and Gold are making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance (2013, 2014, 2016, 2024) and are 1-6 in seven games. Bryant picked up the University’s first-ever Division I NCAA victory in 2013 when the third-seeded Bulldogs defeated second-seeded Arkansas.

Bryant has also competed in the Baton Rouge (La.) Regional in 2014 and the Charlottesville (Va.) Regional in 2016. In 2014, the Bulldogs lost a pair of 10-inning games to Houston (3-2) and Southeastern Louisiana (2-1). In 2016, Bryant fell to East Carolina (9-1) and William & Mary (4-3).

The Bulldogs earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament by claiming their first America East Championship last weekend in Vestal, N.Y. After winning the regular season title, Bryant swept through the postseason tournament, defeating second-seeded UMBC, 15-10, in the championship. Bryant hit .379 as a team in the three games, finishing with seven doubles and eight home runs.

Bryant opened the season with a 1-7 record but has since gone 35-12. The Black and Gold enter the NCAA Tournament hitting .282 as a team and have tied the DI single-season program record with 81 home runs. Bryant features three players with double-digit home runs led by Gavin Noriega’s program record 18. Carmine Petosa has hit 14 and also leads the team with 20 doubles and 60 RBI.
