First Round Pick Scheierman Looks To Add To Celtics Chemistry

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Celtics selected guard Baylor Scheierman with the 30th overall pick and forward Anton Watson with the 54th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Scheierman appeared in 162 career games (133 starts) over five collegiate seasons at South Dakota State (2019-22) and Creighton (2022-24), where he averaged 13.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 31.6 minutes per game. The 6-6 guard shot 46.1 percent from the field, 39.0 percent from three-point range, and 82.0 percent from the free line during his career. He became the first men’s player in Division I history with at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists, and 300 made three-pointers.

The Aurora, Nebraska native was a unanimous 2024 First Team All-Big East selection and Associated Press All-America Third Team honoree his senior year after averaging a career-high 18.5 points. He led the Big East with 16 double-doubles, the most by a Bluejay since 1984-85, and was one of five finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year.

The two-time All-Summit First Team selection appeared in 90 games (61 starts) in three years at South Dakota State and became the 11th men’s player in NCAA history to score 1,000 or more points at multiple Division I schools. During his junior year, Scheierman was named the 2022 Summit Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award, presented annually to the top mid-major player.

Watson appeared in 151 career games (94 starts) at Gonzaga (2019-24) and averaged 9.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.4 steals in 23.7 minutes per game. Watson finished his collegiate career with the second-most steals (215) in program history, trailing only John Stockton, and posted the fourth-most steals in a single season in Gonzaga history with 66 steals in 2022-23.

The 2024 All-Conference First Team selection averaged a career-best 14.5 points per game his senior year while shooting 57.8 percent from the field, which ranked third in the West Coast Conference. He finished seventh in the WCC with 7.1 rebounds per game and ranked second in the conference with 1.5 steals per game. Watson helped lead the Zags to a Sweet 16 appearance and was named to the 2023-24 All-WCC Tournament team.
