New Bedford man sentenced for cocaine trafficking

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The district attorney announced Wednesday that a man was sentenced for trafficking cocaine in New Bedford.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said 49-year-old Demingo Browning, a repeat drug offender, was sentenced to serve five to six years in state prison.

Officials said Browning pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to an indictment charging him with trafficking over 36 grams of cocaine.

Browning’s arrest stemmed from an investigation into a cocaine distribution service being operated out of his apartment on Liberty Street.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the apartment on Nov. 9, 2021, and found a large bag of cocaine weighing 110 grams.

Digital scales, packaging materials, and over $1600 in cash were also seized, according to officials.

“The defendant is a repeat drug dealer who continues to traffick in narcotics,” District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said in a statement. “He needs to be kept off the street to protect the public.”
