URI’s Tyonne Farrell Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

Rhode Island freshman Tyonne Farrell has been named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after leading the Rams to a pair of wins in the opening week of the season, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Farrell – a 6-6 forward from Baltimore, Md. – averaged 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in URI’s wins over Fairfield and Holy Cross last week. In his collegiate debut, he had 14 points and seven rebounds as Rhody defeated Fairfield 96-58.

Over the two games, Farrell shot .600 (6-for-10) from the field while also hitting his only 3-point attempt and going a perfect 3-for-3 at the free throw line. He had a plus-minus of plus-27 points in 33 minutes of playing time. Farrell earned the start in each of the contests.

After not garnering any weekly awards in either 2021-22 or 2022-23, this is the fourth weekly honor for Rhode Island since the start of last season. Guard Jaden House was the A-10 Player of the Week last Nov. 13, while guard Cam Estevez (Dec. 18) and forward David Fuchs (Feb. 26) each won an A-10 Rookie of the Week honor once.

Rhode Island looks for its third straight victory when it hosts Franklin Pierce Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Ryan Center.
