Trial to begin for man accused of drug distribution that resulted in fatal overdose in 2022
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A man charged in connection to a fatal overdose back in 2022 is set to stand trial today.
Walik Morrison, 34, of Pawtucket faces a number of drug charges, and is accused of allegedly supplying the drugs to the overdose victim.
His roomate, 38-year-old Christine Ait Assi, was arrested on similar charges.
According to police, a male and female thought they had ordered cocaine back in 202, but the suspect allegedly took fentanyl pills, crush them up, disguised them in cellophane.
He then provided it to both individuals, then allegedly watched them ingest it and left.
The female then overdosed and died.
Investigators searched the home and found 2.7 lbs of marijuana, 8 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of fentanyl, and 726 counterfeit pressed pills containing fentanyl.
Morrison was arraigned back in April of 2022, and held without bail while Ait Assi was released on $10,000 personal recognizance and placed on home confinement.
The trial is set to start at 9:30 a.m.
