URI’s Sebastian Thomas Named A10 Player of the Week

Rhode Island senior point guard Sebastian Thomas was named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Thomas had a massive week while leading the Rams to victories over Yale and in-state rival Providence. Against Yale, he had 20 points, six assists, and three steals while going 10-for-10 at the free throw line in an 84-78 win. Thomas scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, including the 1,000th point of his career.

Thomas followed that up with 19 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in a 69-63 win over Providence. He scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, leading the Rams back from a 10-point deficit for the victory. Thomas sealed the win with a steal followed by a long 3-pointer with 24 seconds to go that put URI ahead by six points.

In his return to Rhode Island, the Providence native has been nothing short of spectacular. He leads the team and is eighth in the A-10 in scoring with 16.8 points per game. Thomas also leads the conference in total assists (58), assists per game (7.3), total steals (20) and steals per game (2.5). He is a primary reason Rhode Island is 9-0 and one of just eight undefeated teams in the country.

Rhode Island is back in action Tuesday, Dec. 10 when it plays at in-state rival Brown. Game time is 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
