Roger Williams Rolls Past Curry

The Roger Williams men’s basketball team defeated Curry College 91-68 in Conference of New England action. The win brings the Hawks to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in CNE action.

Roger Williams controlled the game from start to finish, as they held the lead for 38 minutes, following two baskets made by Curry to begin the game. The Hawks expanded their lead up to nine points with seven minutes to play in the half, until Curry responded with a 6-0 run of their own to bring the Roger led to within three. The men went on to fend off the opponent for the remainder of the half, heading to the locker room with an eight-point lead. The Hawks and Colonels traded baskets for the first ten minutes of the second half, until Roger Williams went on a 10-2 run with about seven minutes to play, a run that brought their lead from 13 to 22, ultimately putting the game out of reach.

The Hawks outrebounded the opponent 41-28 in the victory and dished out 22 assists compared to Curry’s 11. Additionally, the Hawks turned it over 13 times to the Colonels 19.

Individually, Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) led the way for the men, netting 27 points on 10-18 shooting from the field. Ty Higgins (New Marlborough) chipped in 17 points, 11 of which came in a row for the Hawks in the second half. Phillip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists. For Curry, Jaiden Mann led the way with 32 points, four rebounds and four steals.

Roger Williams (6-3, 2-1 CNE) will take on Salve Regina following their return from winter break on Thursday, Jan. 2. They will return to conference play Jan. 4 against Suffolk at home.
