Jury convicts man in 1994 Attleboro rape case
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — A Bristol County jury convicted a man in a decades old cold case involving a rape in the city.
51-year-old Eduardo Mendez of Guatemala was convicted of the aggravated rape of a 36-year-old woman in 1994.
A rape kit from the case went untested for years, before it was tested in 2019 at the Massachusetts State Police crime lab.
That produced a match to Mendez, prompting his arrest, Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn’s office said.
Mendez will be sentenced Jan. 27.
