PC Men’s Lacrosse Beats Holy Cross in Season Opener
The Providence College men’s lacrosse team defeated Holy Cross, 15-8, on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Providence, R.I. The Friars earned their first win of the 2025 season. Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) paced the Friar offense. Joseph scored a game-high eight goals and Bell added a game-high eight assists.
1st Quarter:
Holy Cross opened the game with back-to-back goals to take a 2-0 lead.
The Friars responded with four straight goals. Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) opened the scoring for Providence on an assist from Ben Dale (Wheaton, Ill.). Richie Joseph then added three straight goals to give the Friars a 4-2 lead with 0:27 remaining in the quarter.
Holy Cross answered with a goal that cut the Friar lead to 4-3.
The Friars outshot Holy Cross,10-7, in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter:
The Friars kicked off the scoring with three consecutive goals. Joseph netted his fifth of the day, while Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) recorded his first goal of the season.
Holy Cross responded with a goal with 6:31 left in the quarter, cutting the Friar lead to 7-4.
Joseph recorded his career high in goals (five) through the first two quarters.
In the first half Providence out-shot Holy Cross, 20-15.
Providence registered 18 groundballs, while Holy Cross had 14.
3rd Quarter:
Holy Cross opened the second half with a goal to cut the Providence lead to 7-5 (14:25).
Horrigan scored for the Friars to extend the lead to 8-5. Ryan Bell netted his fourth assist of the game on the Providence goal.
Sam Brazell (DeWitt, N.Y.) recorded his first career goal for the Friars. Horrigan then scored his third goal of the game to give Providence its biggest lead of the game at 10-5 (5:45).
The Friars extended the scoring run to six straight goals that gave them a 13-5 lead. Horrigan added his third goal of the day with 5:45 remaining in the quarter. Joseph then scored three straight goals to close the period.
Bell added four assists in the third quarter bringing him to seven on the day.
The Friars dominated the third quarter outscoring Holy Cross 6-1.
4th Quarter
The Friars opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals. Parker Kennedy (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and Horrigan each recorded their first goals of the day to extend the Providence lead to 15-5 (7:13).
The Friars 8-0 scoring run was ended by three straight Holy Cross goals to cut the Providence lead to 15-8 (2:55).

Ryan Bell recorded a career-high eight assists.
Richie Joseph scored a career-high eight goals.
Sam Brazell scored his first career goal.
Jack Horrigan netted four points on three goals and one assist.
Dan Donahue (Weston, Mass.) recorded nine saves and five goals allowed.
Quinn McConnaughey (Cohasset, Mass.) recorded seven ground balls and was 14-18 on faceoffs.
What’s Next: The Friars travel across town to Smithfield, R.I. to face Bryant on Saturday, Feb. 8. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
