Harsimran Kaur Leads Rhody Seniors in Senior Day Win
Rhode Island used a 33-point third quarter to bust open a close game as it ripped La Salle 77-54 Saturday afternoon.
The first half was closely contested, though Rhode Island (14-13, 9-5 Atlantic 10) led throughout. Other than a 3-2 led for La Salle (8-20, 2-13 A-10), in the opening minute, Rhody was in front otherwise, leading for nearly 19 minutes despite the teams never separating by more than six points. Harsimran “Honey” Kaur and Ines Debroise had eight points and six points respectively to help URI take a 24-20 lead into halftime.
An explosive start to the third quarter put Rhode Island in firm control. URI opened the half with a 13-4 run that was capped by a Kaur 3-pointer followed by a Sophie Phillips layup that pushed the lead to 37-24 and forced La Salle (8-20, 2-13 A-10) to call timeout just 3:33 into the period.
URI never let up, outscoring La Salle 33-16 in the third quarter. Kaur caught fire, scoring 13 points and hitting three 3-pointers as Rhody extended its lead to 21 points at 57-36 heading into the final quarter.
With the outcoming secured, Rhode Island cruised over the final period to record its sixth straight win in the series. The Rams have now won six of their last eight A-10 contests.

The Rams dominated the glass, outrebounding the Explorers 44-23. In the first half alone, URI had a 28-13 edge on the boards.
Rhode Island got scoring from 10 of the 11 players who saw the floor.
Center Harsimran “Honey” Kaur poured in a game-high 23 points to go with six rebounds.
It was her fourth game with 20-plus points and 16th time scoring in double digits this season.
Guard Ines Debroise had 12 points while shooting 4-for-4 from the field. She also had three assists.
Guard Sophia Vital was the third Ram in double digits, finishing with 12 points, four assists and three rebounds.
Forward Palmire Mbu had six points and seven boards.
Forwards Hawa Komara and Anaelle Dutat each had nine rebounds and four points.
Guard Sophie Phillips had seven points.
It was Senior Day for the Rams. Before the game, guard Sophie Phillips, forward Hawa Komara and center Harsimran “Honey” Kaur were all honored.
Also recognized were practice players Dreyon King and Wolfe Ramsay.
