Providence man pleads guilty to defrauding New Hampshire car dealership

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said that a Providence man admitted to participating in a scheme to defraud automobile dealerships in Rhode Island and New Hampshire.

28-year-old Adalberto Mauricio Romero was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Bloom said that Romero admitted he intended to defraud a New Hampshire dealership in May 2022, when he sought to take possession of a Land Rover valued at $95,713.

Romero had presented a fraudulent driver’s license to the dealership, which contained information that was used as part of an online application to secure financing through a dealership financing program.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 24.

Dennis Odoom, another man involved in the conspiracy, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, on March 25.
